Workshop and Q and A with casting director, Lauren Wiley, on the casting process for professional work.
This workshop is suitable for emerging artists who are still in training, who are aiming for a professional career, and for adults already working in live and recorded performance. It will also be useful for students who plan to audition for tertiary training at the end of Year 12.
Lauren’s presentation will be relevant for music theatre and theatre as well as for film and TV, recognising that performers need to be as versatile as possible in order to sustain a living. Lauren will share the current trends in casting – what’s expected from performers, how to get the most out of self-taping and also in-person auditions.
Locally based directors and producers would also benefit from this workshop.
This workshop supports Music Theatre Projects’ goal of helping build up the performing arts industry in our region by creating direct access to professionals who are specialists in the field.
Lauren Wiley recently worked as Casting Director on MJ the Musical, and was Casting Director on Hamilton, as well as many other music theatre shows. Early in her career Lauren worked in casting at Sydney Theatre Company. Her insight into the state of the industry, and current practices during the casting process, will be invaluable for artists based in the ACT region.
